ART AND CULTURAL ITINERARIES: ANCHORS OF ALTERITY IN A POST-COLONIAL WORLD

The objective of this project is to think art over on the frontiers of culture. It seeks to problematize the concept of frontier as a place of mobility in art history and criticism. We shall reflect on disconnection and decontextualization as strategies of fetishization of objects, but at the same time as emancipated place, recodifying the concepts of autonomy and anomy. Thus, art and culture shall be treated as contemporary topoi for critical and historic discussions about alterities and potentializations of transcultural itineraries. We may situate the idea of identity through reappropriations of art in correlation with the concepts of place, alterity, multiculturalism, post-colonialism, popular, classic, and mass. For this, it becomes necessary that we select and analyze works and theories from Brazilian and foreign artistic production which represent products of material culture, coming from those cited concepts, by being organized through axes, echoes and heritages.
